Analysis of the Strength of the Sea Vessel Structure in the Case of Lifting Operations

Setting the problem

In the course of fabricating at the shipbuilding plant, the units of ship structures are transported to the assembly site. Loads experienced in transportation differ from the structure’s  operational loads and from those it is designed for at the stage of the initial project. Hence, one of problems emerging often is the estimate of stresses which occur in the system during lift-and-carry operations with the assembled unit when it is transported to the site of assembly with other components. If a 3D model of the unit in transportation is available, this problem can be solved by the integrated facility of AutoCAD+ShipConstructor+AutoFEM. Consider the calculation of  the stress state of the unit  during its vertical lift for further transportation. The unit is going to be lifted by means of a gantry crane by four flexible connections, attached to the structure elements (see the figure).

The vessel unit is lifted with four ropes. Stress state estimation is necessary
